Lung Cancer Screening

MedStar Shah Medical Group is proud to announce the plan to implement a Lung Cancer Screening initiative for its patients. A Lung cancer screening is a test to look for signs of lung cancer in otherwise healthy people. The USPSTF (US Preventive Services Task Force) recommends annual screening for lung cancer with low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) in adults aged 55 to 80 years who have a 30 pack-year smoking history and currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years. Screening should be discontinued once a person has not smoked for 15 years or develops a health problem that substantially limits life expectancy or the ability or willingness to have curative lung surgery. Doctors use a low-dose computerized tomography (CT) scan of the lungs to look for lung cancer. If lung cancer is detected at a very early stage, it may be more likely to be cured.
