Fasika Aberra MD
Dr. Fasika Aberra, M.D. is fellowship-trained in gastroenterology and is a valuable member of the Medstar Shah Medical Group. She has obtained her bachelor's degree and medical degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Following her graduation, she pursued an internal medicine residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Prior to her gastroenterology fellowship at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, she served as a hospitalist at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN.
Upon completing her GI fellowship, Dr. Aberra worked as a staff gastroenterologist at Sentara Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA, and joined Gastroenterology Associates P.C. in Gainesville, VA.
Dr. Aberra has a comprehensive interest in all aspects of gastrointestinal care. Her areas of expertise include quality improvement initiatives in GI, chronic disease management within the field, women's health, nutrition, addressing disparities in colorectal cancer screening, and empowering and educating patients to take an active role in their healthcare.
Dr. Aberra enjoys the company of her husband, two daughters, and their beloved Great Dane. Engaging in outdoor activities like hiking alongside her furry companion, she also enjoys running, watching biographical films, and mastering the art of Ethiopian cuisine. Her passion for her field drives her to stay updated with the latest advancements, constantly seeking to expand her knowledge. Dr. Aberra is always looking for opportunities to contribute to her community and make a positive impact.
